Enrichment Opportunities

At the John Warner Sixth Form we feel that it is important for our students to develop as all round adults both within and outside of the classroom.

To support students’ academic qualifications, all Sixth Formers have the opportunity to study a range of enrichment courses alongside their main Level 3 qualifications. These qualifications include:

The EPQ which is an independent project aimed at those students who want to explore a particular area of interest. The EPQ is highly regarded by universities and so is highly recommended to those students who have aspirations of attending high tariff universities.

Core mathematics offers students the opportunity to gain a higher level maths qualification without taking the full A-Level course. It enables them to develop and enhance their mathematics skills in a functional, real world manner. This course is highly recommended for students who are studying science subjects, economics or business studies, but not taking the full A-Level mathematics course.

For those students who are required to re-sit their English Language or Mathematics GCSE qualifications, we offer dedicated teaching support to ensure that all of our students leave the Sixth Form with these extremely important qualifications.

Outside of the classroom, students at the John Warner Sixth Form have a access to wide range of extra-curricular activities which they can take part in, and we actively encourage all of our students to be participants within our school community. All John Warner Sixth Form students have access to the John Warner Sports Centre and can use the swimming pool and fitness gym facilities for free before and after school. Students have the opportunity to compete in sports competitions, to act on the stage and perform as part of a music group. We have a very strong robotics team which compete at local, national and international events. Students can take part in the Duke of Edinburgh Awards scheme, with the ultimate aim of achieving the highly regarded Gold Award. Within school and the local community there are a number of opportunities for students to take on volunteer roles, either as a sports coach, a learning mentor for younger students, or at local events such as 'Hoddesdon Loves Christmas' and 'Give Your Town The Run Around.' We also encourage our students to take on leadership responsibilities with the Sixth Form and the wider school, with opportunities including becoming a Senior House Captain, joining the School Council, the Sixth Form Committee or applying to be part of the student Head Team.

Students in the Sixth Form also have the opportunity to take part in a range of trips, with recent trips including the business studies trip to Paris, the art and design visit to Barcelona, the English, music and drama trip to New York, the mathematics and physics trip to the Large Hadron Collider in Cern, the geography visit to Iceland and the annual Sixth form ski trip.
