Rewards and Consequences

At The John Warner School we promote a range of opportunities in which students can be rewarded for good work and behaviour. We recognise that rewards alone should not be the sole motivating factor for students and seek to foster a love of learning for learning’s sake. Below you will find some of the typical rewards that can be expected by students for good work and behaviour. All positive behaviours are linked to our school values.

At The John Warner School we also recognise the importance of applying established consequences when students’ work or behaviour is not at the level which is considered acceptable. Below you will find some of the typical consequences that can be expected by students for unacceptable work or behaviour.

• Verbal correction, reprimand or warning
• Break or lunch time detentions
• Confiscation of prohibited items
• Same day after school detentions
• Withdrawal from lessons
• SLT detention (2 hours on a Friday)
• Behaviour contract
• Fixed term exclusion (serious breaches of the Behaviour for Learning Policy)
• Permanent exclusion (persistent breaches of Behaviour for Learning Policy or significant one-off event)

Behaviour Support

We also have a number of procedures in place to support individuals who are finding it difficult to manage their behaviour. This could include:

• SEND support
• Hub support (our alternative learning provision)
• Family Support Worker
• Outreach from Rivers Educational Support or other external providers
