Year 7 English

Students in their Year 7 English classes have been discovering Old English and Middle English language. The first text we read and discussed was the old epic poem, Beowulf. Pupils have been learning about the world of myths, legends, heroes and knights. As we considered Beowulf’s character in great depth, it inspired the class of 7Y3 to use drama to bring the story to life.

Our PGCE student Mr Dennis also encouraged his Year 7 class to deliberate whether Grendel’s mother was a monster or misunderstood. He shared these moments of inspiration with the English department and other Year 7 students.
